The Little Bustard Trail

The Bustle Trail has a circular trail between the towns of Villasarracino and Villaherreros that runs, in large part, through the unique morphology of the farmland and farmland of Tierra de Campos Palentina.

Ruta del Sisón

The trail is made up of three sections:

First section

Villasarracino-Villaherreros

The trail starts from the Ermita de La Piedad in Villasarracino following a path through farmland towards Villaherreros. Halfway along the trail you will find an ornithological viewpoint where you can watch steppe birds. In this territory you will find a good part of the ornithological jewels of the area, several of them with populations of great interest (bustard, little bustard, Montagu's harrier, kestrel, lark, calandra lark and common lark) and others with reduced presence (such as blue lark and barn owl).

The path continues until we reach the Los Chopos service area, where an information panel gives directions to cross the P-236 road and continue towards Villaherreros. This first section ends next to the Ermita de la Virgen del Vallarna in Villaherreros.

Second section

Villaherreros-San Pedro Winery Complex

The second section leaves from Villaherreros along a road next to the N120 in the direction of the Bodegas de San Pedro complex. You will go through its main streets either stopping to visit one of the wineries that are open to the public or enjoying the wonderful views from the viewpoint, where you can see the Palencia Mountains.

The trail continues to the old washing places of Villaherreros. This section ends again in Villaherreros.

Third section

Villaherreros-Villasarracino

From the Ermita de la Virgen de Vallarna and passing again through the subway of the A-231, continue straight towards the northeast to find at about 500m the remains of a typical dovecote of field land construction (the interior cannot be visited).

The trail turns to the left to run through farmland again until you reach the second ornithological viewpoint.
The trail ends by entering Villasarracino from the northeast along a path that has a picnic area where you can rest from your journey before entering the town.

In Villasarracino you will be able to discover the Friar Felix Cuadrado's House-Museum that was donated by the friar's family to the town in 1960 together with valuable oriental and religious objects that belonged to him and came from his residence in the Philippines and China between 1888 and 1893.
